Dominic Sedgwick (UK)
Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Opera Course

London-based baritone Dominic Sedgwick currently studies with Robert Dean on the prestigious Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He is proud to be a 2015-16 and 2016-17 Scholar of the Drake Calleja Trust.

Dominic is a Britten Pears Young Artist, a winner of the Three Choirs Felicity Lott competition, recipient of a Help Musicians Sybil Tutton Award and is also grateful to hold awards from the Countess of Munster Musical Trust and the Worshipful Companies of Grocers and Goldsmiths. Before graduating from postgraduate study at GSMD with Distinction this year, Dominic read Theology at Clare College, Cambridge where he held a choral scholarship.

Previous operatic roles include Papageno/Die Zauberflote for Longborough Festival Opera YAP; Falke/Die Fledermaus for Opera Danube with Oliver Gooch; Count Almaviva/Le Nozze di Figaro for Cambridge University Opera; Edmund Bertram in Jonathan Dove’s Mansfield Park and the role of Benjamin Britten in Iain Burnside’s 2013 production of ‘Journeying Boys’. Opera scenes include Figaro/Le Nozze di Figaro for the Britten Pears Programme and Aeneas/Dido and Aeneas and Guglielmo/Cosi fan tutte for GSMD. Dominic joined the Glyndebourne Chorus for their award-winning 2015 season and has previously performed with Festival d’Aix en Provence and Garsington Opera. Earlier this year Dominic was selected to appear in public masterclass with Joyce Didonato for her 2015 Barbican Spotlight, and has also appeared in public masterclasses with Angelika Kirchschlager, Susan Bullock, Edith Wiens, Simon Keenlyside and Ann Murray.

In recital, Dominic has performed with the Guildhall Song Guild, making his Barbican Hall debut in 2015, and has previously performed for the Three Choirs Festival 2015, the London Song Festival and the Cadogan Hall’s ‘Chelsea Sketch Club Series’ amongst other venues. Upcoming performances include Prince Andrei/War and Peace and Sid/Albert Herring for GSMD Opera Scenes, Junius/Rape of Lucretia for GSMD Opera, Messiah with the Huntington Philharmonic and St. Matthew Passion in Bristol’s Colston Hall.
